Featured Simple Man: Jesse D
I believe and have for a long time, that in this world, we hold more similarities among us than differences. Our differences make us grow, learn, and expand in ideas/understanding of each other, but our similarities start the conversation and help us connect to get to that good stuff.

What are you doing during quarantine?
I’ve realized a few things about myself in the last two months.
First, teachers need to be paid $300,000 a month. Seriously, a month.
Second, one of the biggest benefits and things I love about having a small shop is the conversations and connections I have with customers.

Updated Hours and Shopping Options
We have expanded our hours a bit and will continue to do so as regulations and safe practices allow.

Karma
If you have known me for any length of time, you know I’m a believer in the power of positive thinking. Yes, I am a spiritual being, and I also believe without a shadow of a doubt that Karma exists. What you put into the world, you receive back.

A Time of Unknown
I had something different in mind for our blog this month, but as I sit here and start to write, I realize something else is weighing heavy on all our minds. In the wake of this pandemic (wow, I never thought I’d be faced with a pandemic), I find the priorities in many areas have now shifted.

I like junk.
If you’ve ever been in the store (or glanced at the images on our website) you may have noticed that beyond the clothing, personal care, accessories and lifestyle goods we offer, there are a considerable amount of other items throughout the store.

Success Breeds Success
My 2020 personal goal is to read twelve books this year. You are thinking, like everyone else does that I’ve told this to, “oh, reading one book a month, huh?”

These are a few of my favorite things
December is here. Gifting season is upon us and we love it. We spend a tremendous amount of time gearing up for this time of year. Each year it actually all begins in January and February when we head off to market to choose items for the fall season.

The quest for “just the right thing”
When customers come into the shop, we often strike up conversations while they shop. I love that it’s the kind of place where transactions can turn into relationships. We consider ourselves lucky to be located in a part of Omaha that really seems to value its community.

3 Years
On any given day in the store, people will ask the question “how long have you been here?” and many are surprised to know that before we settled in the Countryside Village Shopping Center, The Simple Man’s first location was in a part of Omaha called Benson.

The Simple Man’s “What I did over summer vacation” essay
My wife Emily is a planner (I mean you should see her spreadsheet packing lists – crazy impressive), so when she demanded we start discussing (in February) what our summer vacation maybe this year, I was pushing for a trip to Mount Rushmore. I figured the kids were at the ages that seeing “The Faces” would be a mix of educational as well as fascination.

Father's Day
I’ve been thinking a lot about Father’s Day this year. This tends to happen each year, but this year, more than previous, I have been thinking more about my life as a dad. My kids are at an age when I know they are paying closer attention to our relationship, my advice (who are we kidding) and learning more about who I am as a person.
